Teaching Opportunities

Students who complete St Cecilia teaching diplomas (A.Dip.SCSM, Dip. SCSM and F.Dip.SCSM) are encouraged to enter the private studio and itinerant specialist school teaching professions. Those students who also hold degrees in education (eg. B.Mus.Ed and B.Ed.) are highly sought after as valuable teachers within most school music programs. Music teachers’ associations (MTA of NSW, SA and WA etc) encourage teachers who hold St. Cecilia diplomas to apply for membership, thereby opening further opportunities for professional development and cooperation. St. Cecilia is pleased, where possible, to assist potential teachers in developing their career pathways. From time to time, specialist Workshops, Clinics and Seminars are made available for this purpose. Check with Examination Updates for upcoming events.

Performing Opportunities

St. Cecilia Performance Diploma holders (A.Dip.SCSM, Dip.SCSM and F.Dip.SCSM) who aim to enter the professional world of performing are well equipped for auditioning with amateur, semi-professional and professional orchestras, chamber music groups, choirs, opera companies and theatrical groups. Whilst the world of professional performance is highly competitive and only limited opportunities are available, St. Cecilia encourages involvement in performance right from the early stages of learning. Many students have used their music training as a stepping stone for related professions such as television and radio and newspaper reporting. Some students have also found their music studies have assisted in professions such as Events Management and Hospitality. A knowledge of music is valuable for students who wish to enter the commercial world of music instruments and sheet music sales.

St. Cecilia provides opportunities for it’s Launceston-based students to participate in orchestras and choirs.
